The Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post 398 is extremely grateful for the generous donation received from Saint Luke Parish in Westport for our efforts in hosting 18 consecutive monthly Red Cross Blood drives benefiting so many in Fairfield County.  At the Outreach Ministry their committee discerned that they would be honored to help participate in this cause by granting $1,000 to VFW Post 399.  It has been their practice to give out these funds on Super Bowl Sunday!

Our 17th consecutive monthly Red Cross Blood drive held on Tuesday, January 18th was a great success and our largest blood drive with over 75 registered donors!  The American Red Cross said it declared its first-ever “blood crisis” as it faces the worst national blood shortage in about a decade.

“Amid this crisis, doctors have been forced to make difficult decisions about who receives blood transfusions and who will need to wait until more products become available,” the Red Cross said in a statement. “Blood and platelet donations are critically needed to help prevent further delays in vital medical treatments.”

The American Red Cross in partnership with VFW Post 399 hosted their 16th blood drive on Thursday, December 16th with over 65 registered donors.  The American Red Cross continues to experience a critical blood shortage and donors of all blood types – especially type O and those giving platelets – are urged to make an appointment at our next blood drive scheduled for Tuesday, January 18th. The American Red Cross’ national blood inventory has never been this low in a decade.
This month was special for the American Red Cross, as they will celebrate the 200th birthday of founder, Clara Barton, on December 25, 2021. Again, a special thanks to everyone for continuing to sustain her legacy of service and hope.
