The Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post 399 is sincerely honored to be awarded the WWC Community Service Grant Award of $1000 in support of urgent building infrastructure improvements and community service.

The Community Service has been the trademark of the Westport  Woman’s Club since its inception in 1907. Each year club members volunteer many hours to find the right balance between current needs within the local community, available funds, and the WWC mission. This year’s Community Service Grant recipients serve a variety of social needs including homelessness, family crises, and food insecurity.

Please join us at 3:30pm this coming Saturday, January 28th in our Banquet Room for a behind-the-scenes look at the development and pre-production of “The Team Room” – a new play about the Army Special Forces immediately before, during, and after 9/11.

The playwright (Bill Raskin) and producer (Michael Hare) will be on hand to discuss the production run and premiere in Washington, DC scheduled for October 2023.

The production is a 501(c)3 to raise awareness for veterans service. Following closing night, all net proceeds will contribute toward the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.

This event is free-of-charge with no required contribution.  The team is excited to share their story of the mission.  The team is grateful for any who may wish to contribute or sponsor. Events like this are extremely helpful in spreading the word.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting everyone on Saturday!

About “The Team Room”:

Special Forces A-Team 824 serves at Camp Diamond, West Virginia. On the morning of September 10th, 2001, they report for a routine week of duty and training exercises.

The audience steps into the world of Army Special Forces operators, during their last day of peace and a sudden transition to war.

Reviews:

“An entertaining, insightful glimpse into the team room, and into the minds, of a Special Forces detachment at the outset of war. The “Green Berets,” as they are known, are a collection of young warriors whose skills and human emotions are laid bare by the realities of combat. Bill Raskin has been there, and now invites you into the world he inhabited.”– Stanley McChrystal, General, U.S. Army (Retired)

I’ve spent over 30 years in Army Special Forces in multiple operational assignments both in garrison and combat. Limited to a setting covering three days, Lieutenant Colonel (Bill) Raskin did an outstanding job capturing the humor and drama of a Special Forces ODA in peacetime and war. Very well done and thoroughly enjoyable. De Oppresso Liber.”– James P. Lenske, Command Sergeant Major (Retired), US Army Special Forces.

The artistry of

Sarah Jane Cion

A special evening with a very special artist

Sarah Jane Cion caresses the piano with sensitivity and love, and the colors she uses demonstrate her gift and vision. —McCoy Tyner
When no less an authority than McCoy Tyner says that pianist SARAH JANE CION “caresses the piano with sensitivity and love, and she also possesses a unique talent for composition,” you can believe the hype.

After Sarah Jane Cion’s first Westport engagement at the Post in July people were clamoring for a return engagement…

We were finally able to secure a date, and what a night it will be!

An award winning pianist (1st Place Winner of the 17th Annual Great American Jazz Piano Competition) and thoughtful composer, Sarah invites us into her unique world  that’s uniquely sensitive and oh, so swinging! Most recently, her songs “Cat in the Hat” and “Golden Song” were featured respectively in Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Mule in 2018 and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Golden Song in Thor: The Dark World. The music of Sarah Jane Cion is unapologetically pretty. It proceeds from her poetic vision, warm and elegiac, and her right hand takes us with her as it climbs. —Thomas Conrad, DOWNBEAT
