The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) District 1 held its quarterly meeting on Saturday, May 15th at VFW Post 399 in Westport.  Presiding at the meeting was Joe Beal who serves as District 1 Commander. The district-wide event welcomed over 25 veterans from the region to help elect new officers.   District 1 encompasses VFW Post 399 Westport, VFW Post 149 Danbury, VFW Post 6933 Darien, VFW Post 10059 Trumbull, VFW Post 603 Norwalk, VFW Post 9460 Stratford, VFW Post 9617 Stamford, VFW Post 3052 Ridgefield, VFW Post 9427 Fairfield, VFW Post 10201 Brookfield, VFW Post 10466 Shelton, VFW Post 308 Newtown, VFW Post 145 Bridgeport, VFW Post 653 New Canaan, VFW Post 10273 Bridgeport, and VFW Post 10112 Cos Cob.

For information, Fairfield County has the third largest veteran population in Connecticut. The greatest resource that can be provided to veterans is one that connects them with other veterans. Again, congratulations to the newly elected District 1 officers who are consistently demonstrating leadership, determination and dedication in following the Hero’s Code — Give a little bit of your time and talent everyday to help veterans!

Westport Parks and Recreation organized their annual Clean-up Westport Day on Saturday, April 24th.  They asked VFW Post 399 to help and organize trash clean-up on Riverside Ave from MCA to Treadwell Ave.  VFW Post 399 and Auxiliary superbly assembled an “All Hands“ working party to help clean-up the neighborhood.  Our “All Hands” working party included the Norwalk Neighborhood Improvement team who provided the necessary equipment for everyone.  Remember, we are committed to veterans, families of veterans, and the community in which we live.  A special thanks to everyone who helped make the event a huge success!
