After years of fundraising and preparation, VFW Post 399 is excited to announce the commencement of dredging operations on its 50-year-old marina, located on the scenic Saugatuck River in Westport. The project marks a significant milestone for the Post as it works to restore the 34-slip marina, a task required every 20 years to maintain its functionality and safety.
The initial phase of the project began today, with a cadre of dedicated Post members dismantling the existing marina in preparation for the dredging to start next week. This marks the culmination of a multi-year effort to raise funds for the massive undertaking, supported by the community and the growing membership of VFW Post 399.
“We’re very excited and relieved that we are finally moving forward,” said VFW Post 399 Quartermaster Phil Delgado. “With a growing local membership and more visiting veterans taking advantage of the Post’s offerings, we realized this project was essential to ensuring our financial future. We want to create a space where veterans can come at their leisure to enjoy the fantastic views of the Saugatuck River.”
VFW Post 399 continues to serve as a vital resource for veterans in the community, offering a range of programs, services, and social opportunities. Everyone is welcome!
