VFW District 1 proudly announces Post 399 and Auxiliary nominee, Maximilian Kim, as the recipient of the prestigious Voice of Democracy award for the year 2023. This esteemed recognition, part of the longstanding tradition initiated in 1947, celebrates the outstanding expression of democratic and patriotic values through recorded essays by high school students.
The Voice of Democracy audio-essay program provides a platform for ninth through 12th grade students nationwide to articulate their perspectives on themes central to democracy. This year, Maximilian Kim’s essay exemplified exceptional insight and passion, distinguishing him as the district’s standout participant.
“We are thrilled to acknowledge Maximilian Kim as our District 1 winner for the Voice of Democracy program,” stated Phil Delgado, VFW Post 399 Quartermaster. “His thoughtful and compelling essay reflects a deep understanding of democratic values, patriotism, and the essence of civic engagement.”
The program annually attracts nearly 25,000 students vying for educational scholarships and incentives totaling over $1 million. Maximilian Kim’s success in this initial stage positions him for further competition, representing our district with pride and excellence.  VFW Post 399 and Auxiliary extends its heartfelt congratulations to Maximilian Kim and wishes him the best in the subsequent rounds of the competition.
