The Red Cross Blood Drive sponsored by the Westport Young Woman’s League at the Joseph J. Clinton VFW Post 399 on Wednesday, January 20th was a major success! Again, the Blood Drive had a completely full reservation schedule exceeding our record of 55 blood donors and goal of 30 appointments! The success of the blood drive and community support is vital during the COVID-19 pandemic. All life-saving blood donations are being tested for COVID-19 antibodies to help coronavirus patients!
The Channel 12 news team arrived to interview and discuss the importance of blood donations during the pandemic. VFW Post 399 is also very proud of our recognition by being awarded the American Red Cross Outstanding Service Award!
“The American Red Cross is so grateful for partners that continue to stand with us throughout the coronavirus pandemic. This is the time to take care of one another, and your upcoming blood drive is essential to ensuring the health of those in our community. We’re in this together!”
Future Red Cross Blood Drives at VFW Post 399 are scheduled for February 10th, March 11th, April 21st and June 22nd.
We are honored and extend our deepest appreciation to VetsAid The Concert for awarding a generous $5,000 grant to VFW Post 399 in recognition for Community Support and Food Assistance. Today VetsAid announced the disbursement of $250,000 in grants to various community, mid-sized and national veterans organizations with monies raised from their 4th annual concert event which streamed online on December 12, 2020.
“To date, VetsAid has disbursed nearly $1.8 million dollars to organizations that support veterans and their families. All net proceeds from the 2020 festival will go directly to the charities that have been selected through a vetting process coordinated in tandem with the Combined Arms Institute.”
We are have a great 100 year Westport history of giving back to veterans and community through Red Cross Blood Drives, coat drives, CT Veteran Affairs Service Officer support and food distribution throughout Fairfield County, the third largest veterans population (32,562) in Connecticut!
Throughout the year, VFW Post 399 has established a continuous donation program of collecting food items for charities Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport and Westport Saint Luke’s Catholic Food Pantry. We find that during this pandemic many more families are struggling with unemployment and hunger issues. Our food charity support could not function without the generosity of our veterans and local community organizations. Please drop off your food donation at our collection bin located near the front entrance or make a PayPal donation through our VFW Post 399 website.
