On Saturday, December 13, the Westport community came together to commemorate National Wreaths Across America Day at Assumption Greens Farms Cemetery, honoring and remembering the sacrifices of our nation’s veterans.  Led by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 399 Auxiliary, Vice Commander Patty Kondub and Joan Polayes, with the dedicated participation of Westport Scout Troops 39 and 139, the ceremony served as a heartfelt tribute to those who served and defended our freedoms.
Members of VFW Post 399, joined by community volunteers, assembled early in the cold morning to take part in the solemn tradition of laying remembrance wreaths on the graves of over 400 heroes. Each wreath placed symbolized the community’s gratitude, respect, and enduring commitment to never forget those who answered the call to serve.
“We are deeply honored to participate in this meaningful event and to pay tribute to our courageous veterans,” said Phil Delgado, Quartermaster of VFW Post 399. “It is through these acts of remembrance that we ensure the sacrifices of our heroes are never forgotten.”  Special thanks are extended to the VFW Post 399 Auxiliary and the many volunteers whose leadership, dedication, and service helped rally the community and ensure a dignified and respectful tribute.
