This week at Jazz at the Post…

The artistry of

Sarah Jane Cion

A special evening with a very special artist

Sarah Jane Cion caresses the piano with sensitivity and love, and the colors she uses demonstrate her gift and vision. —McCoy Tyner
When no less an authority than McCoy Tyner says that pianist SARAH JANE CION “caresses the piano with sensitivity and love, and she also possesses a unique talent for composition,” you can believe the hype.

After Sarah Jane Cion’s first Westport engagement at the Post in July people were clamoring for a return engagement…

We were finally able to secure a date, and what a night it will be!

An award winning pianist (1st Place Winner of the 17th Annual Great American Jazz Piano Competition) and thoughtful composer, Sarah invites us into her unique world  that’s uniquely sensitive and oh, so swinging! Most recently, her songs “Cat in the Hat” and “Golden Song” were featured respectively in Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Mule in 2018 and Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Golden Song in Thor: The Dark World. The music of Sarah Jane Cion is unapologetically pretty. It proceeds from her poetic vision, warm and elegiac, and her right hand takes us with her as it climbs. —Thomas Conrad, DOWNBEAT

Sarah Jane Cion is a heavyweight. —Johnny Mandel

Pianist/composer Sarah Jane Cion performed with young and older jazz legends such as Clark Terry, Etta Jones, Anita O’Day, Della Griffin, Ralph Lalama, Alan Harris, Carmen Leggio, Dr. Lyn Christie, Bucky Pizzarelli, Don Braden, and many others. She is often found performing with New York City mainstay big bands such as the Lew Anderson Big Band at Birdland and is currently performing with bestselling author and tenor man James McBride. Her debut CD, Indeed! features alto saxophonist Antonio Hart, drummer Tony Reedus and other current jazz giants. Her second CD Moon Song was released internationally on the Naxos Jazz label featuring Phil Palombi, Chris Potter and Billy Hart, and reached Number 15 on the U.S. Gavin Reports.
Her third CD, Summer Night featured saxophone giant Michael Brecker, and the reprise of Billy Hart and Phil Palombi. Summer Night reached number 12 on the Yellowdog Jazz Charts.
