On Saturday Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 399 proudly accepted a handcrafted American flag retirement drop box donated by Will Bernard of Westport’s Scout Troop 39 as part of his Eagle Scout project.

The custom-built drop box offers a respectful way for members of the community to properly retire worn and weathered U.S. flags.  “We sincerely appreciated this contribution to our post and to the veteran community”,  said  Phil Delgado, VFW Quartermaster.

VFW Post 399 conducts ceremonial flag retirements throughout the year, ensuring each flag is respectfully and properly disposed of in accordance with U.S. Flag Code. 

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 399 is excited to announce an evening of great food, craft beer, and soulful music at the SPACECAT Beer, Burger & Live Blues Night on Tuesday, June 3 from 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

This special night will feature Louisa Otey on vocals, delivering a dynamic blues performance you won’t want to miss. Known for her rich, emotive voice and magnetic stage presence, Louisa will bring the house down with a blend of blues, soul, and her classic rock favorites.

Guests can enjoy Dan The Man’s gourmet burgers, ice-cold craft brews from SPACECAT Brewing Company, and a lively atmosphere alongside fellow community members, veterans, and supporters.

As always, the event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome—come hungry, come thirsty, and come ready to enjoy some of the best live music Westport has to offer!

Melissa Newman

Join us for a warm evening of hot Jazz at Westport’s own Jazz Inferno! Melissa  is a natural talent, and really makes every song she sings her very own. With a band like this, the evening is sure to be way over the top. This show always sells out so be sure and get reservations early!

Melissa Newman had a lucrative career singing jingles for companies like AT&T and Chevrolet. Locally she has  performed at the Blue Lemon, Tengda, and Harvest in Westport,
with guitarist Tony Lombardozzi and bassist Phil Bowler. Melissa also makes, shows and sells ceramic and porcelain sculpture. Melissa was a featured artist in the recent major exhibit, “Layers Revealed” at The Norwalk Art Space. She lives in Westport with her husband and two sons.

And if that is not enough, we celebrate Melissa as an author!  She has a new book out entitled “Head over Heels”, a love story in words and pictures.
